Revenues and annual results of VfL Wolfsburg in the financial years 2018/19 to 2021/22

In 2001, Volkswagen AG successfully applied for an exemption from the 50+1 rule, thereby gaining the opportunity to own more than 50% + one voting share of VfL Wolfsburg e. V. to take over. First, the group acquired 90% of the shares and finally became the sole shareholder of the association in 2007. Volkswagen Group Services GmbH now holds the shares and refrains from publishing the annual financial statements of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH in accordance with Section 264 HGB. It therefore remains unclear how much money Volkswagen AG is actually investing in the association.

However, it is rumored that the second largest car manufacturer in the world pays around 95 million euros to VfL Wolfsburg per season. For the negotiations on financial fair play with UEFA, the group had a sponsorship consultancy certify an advertising value of this amount. If you participate in the Champions League, the amount should increase to 150 million euros.
